Description
The Sacramento Mountains Silvery Blue is a subspecies of the Silvery Blue Butterfly, which is named for the dorsal color of the wings. The ventral wings are gray with bands of white spots.
Comments. New Mexico has four named subspecies of which the two best known are Rocky Mountain subspecies Glaucopsyche lygdamus oro (Scudder 1876) in north-central New Mexico and Mogollon Rim subspecies Glaucopsyche lygdamus arizonensis McDunnough 1936 in southwest New Mexico mountains. Richard Holland (2011) described Sacramento Mountains and Sierra Blanca (Li,Ot) subspecies Glaucopsyche lygdamus ruidoso (R. Holland 2011).
