The NM-RARe Technical Council is a voluntary organization that:
- Maintains the New Mexico Rare Arthropods List.
- Responsible for the development of the New Mexico Rare Arthropod Conservation Strategy as a guiding document for managing and protecting the at-risk arthropod species of the state.
- Supports a public website that provides descriptive accounts for the species on the list, educational materials, and links to resources to support their conservation.
Membership
- Any person aged 18 or older may apply for membership.
- Council members may represent a range of expertise including taxonomy, ecology, conservation biology and policy, land management, and regional knowledge of New Mexico arthropods.
- Council members meet at least once per year at an Annual Meeting held in-person, virtually, or as a hybrid.
New Mexico Rare Arthropods List Updates
- Any interested party (member or non-member) may submit a species application for addition to or removal from the NM-RARe List.
- Species must meet criteria related to rarity, threat status, endemism, and taxonomic validity in order to be considered.
- Applications are reviewed for eligibility and presented at the Annual Meeting for discussion and vote.
